Average deal value in the Asia-Pacific region in 2017 rose 47% from the prior year to $156 million—more than 50% higher than the average in 2012-16—and the number of deals valued at $1 billion or more nearly doubled to 27. A major force behind the unprecedented growth was the trend toward consortium transactions. Almost two-thirds of deal volume involved multiple investors. The rise in pooled transactions propelled a surge in megadeals over $1 billion as general partners, institutional investors and government affiliates vied for attractive targets.
