Bain & Company appoints Kurt Grichel to lead its Americas Retail Practice

NEW YORK – January 16, 2024 – Bain & Company has appointed Kurt Grichel, an 18-year veteran of the firm, to lead its Americas Retail practice. Kurt will remain based in Bain’s Seattle office where he has a successful track record working across a range of industries, including grocery, mass retail, and specialty retail.

Bain & Company’s Americas Retail practice has nearly doubled over the last seven years. Kurt will work with the firm’s Retail practice partner team to continue this growth, adapting to shifts in the fast-changing retail sector and delivering unmatched client results across North, Central, and South America.

“We are thrilled to appoint Kurt as the head of our Americas Retail practice,” said Marc-André Kamel, who leads Bain & Company’s global Retail practice. “Kurt is passionate about retail and comes to the role with an array of fantastic client results, deep expertise across the retail industry, connectivity with our broader team, and extraordinary energy to lead our practice to new heights in the next few years.”

“I am honored with this appointment and looking forward to working with the team to continue our mission of delivering lasting results, solving complex challenges, and setting new standards in the retail sector,” said Kurt Grichel. “As a team, we will continue to bring our deep expertise across all subsectors of retail and the full breadth of Bain’s capabilities to our clients.”

In his new role, Kurt will continue to partner closely with his clients, and he will also be responsible for business and client development as well as the management of the practice’s team and executive network.

Prior to joining Bain in 2006, Grichel was a vice president with JPMorgan Chase. He received a BA in business administration from Western Washington University and earned his MBA as a Palmer Scholar at Wharton.
